In Central Chile, the Inca capital was located in what is now Santiago. Their buildings have disappeared, but Inca remains have been found across the city. One such site has been excavated in this exhibit hall. The Inca Road ran along the present-day Avenida Independencia to the Mapocho River, then followed Calle Bandera until heading south to Cerro La Compañía. There, an Inca fort used in defence against local indigenous groups marks the southern boundary of the Inca Empire’s occupation.
