How does the trinacrio turn?

Ceramicists of the Aconcagua culture decorated their funerary ceramics by painting black geometric figures onto natural clay-coloured vessels. A favourite motif was the “trinacrio,” a three-armed design applied onto the exterior or interior surface of bowls and serving platters. Curiously, the ‘arms’ of the design are oriented to the right on vessels found in the tombs of males, and to the left on vessels found in those of females.
