Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino

A mature ceramic tradition

The shapes, fine walls, finishing and decoration of early Pitrén ceramic pieces suggest that the techniques were brought to the region ready-made instead of developing gradually. The bridge-handled vessel, for example, is very similar in shape to El Bato and Llolleo ceramics from the Central Zone and those produced by the El Molle and Diaguita cultures in the Near North of Chile.
